If I Die by Rachel Vincent - Best book in the series by far!

The entire school's talking about the gorgeous new math teacher, Mr. Beck. Everyone except Kaylee Cavanaugh. After all, Kaylee's no ordinary high-school junior. She's a banshee—she screams when someone dies.

But the next scream might be for Kaylee.

Yeah—it's a shock to her, too. So to distract herself, Kaylee's going to save every girl in school. Because that hot new teacher is really an incubus who feeds on the desire of unsuspecting students. The only girls immune to his lure are Kaylee and Sabine, her boyfriend's needy ex-girlfriend. Now the unlikely allies have to get rid of Mr. Beck…before he discovers they aren't quite human, either.

But Kaylee's borrowed lifeline is nearing its end. And those who care about her will do anything to save her life.

Anything.

I have been waiting on If I Die by Rachel Vincent for what seems like ages now! And I am so glad to say that it was well and truly worth the wait.

From the moment I first started reading the opening chapter I was hooked and I took this book everywhere with me in case I got a spare minute to read - uni, to meet friends and even into the kitchen waiting for the kettle to boil to make a cup of book reading tea.

I’ve been a bit of a Tod fan for quite a while now (he really is one of my favourite characters) and I loved the development in this book between him and Kaylee. Although it was a little expected I couldn’t read fast enough to find out what was going to happen next. There was more than a couple of steamy moments  in this book between a few of the characters.

I’ve said it before and I am sure I will say it again but Rachel Vincent has really maanged to create a whole cast of memorable characters that really does bring this series and the books to life. From Emma the human best friend, to Sabine who has really grown on me since the last book and I still absolutely love Nash even thou some of his actions over the series have been a tad questionable.

Unlike some of the other books the Netherworld didn’t feature as much in this story, but I didn’t really miss it with everything else that was going on. However, I did have a few moments where I missed Avari (if you can miss Avari) but it was just a few moments - he does make for a great bad guy.

It wasn’t exactly like there wasn’t enough already going on in this book to keep me more than entertained. I also just didn’t know where Rachel Vincent was going with If I die, and towards the final chapters I had no idea how it was going to end. But I do have to say that the ending of If I Die was just brilliant and I really, really want the next book NOW.

I think I say this in everyone of my Rachel Vincent reviews but I just love her writing style. If I had to use one word to sum it up I’d pick – effortless. I always find her books just so easy to read and minutes melt into hours and hours melt into a house full of undone chores.

This is one of my all time favourite series and favourite authors, if you are in the mood for some great YA paranormal then I can’t recommend Rachel Vincent’s Soul Screamers series enough! But my only advice would be to read them in order, you’ll get a lot more from the overall story that way.

  3. I'm finally getting through to the bottom of the YA Campaigner's List so I'm dropping by to say, 'Hi!" It's always nice to find a site that posts reviews so I know what to look for in YA fiction. Your site is beautiful, by the way!

I'm listed as My Withershins, but usually have to post comments on Blogspot with my Humpty Dumpty persona because they don't particularly like Wordpress, for some reason. Anyway, Happy Valentine's Day and happy blogging!
